Uses

Directions

BACLOFEN 20MG are used to relieve symptoms of spasticity and protect against neurological disorders. Do not use if you:

  • Are allergic to Baclofen or any of the ingredients in the tablets
  • Have a severe disorder that affects the brain, muscles, or joints
  • Have a spinal cord injury or nerve disorder
    • If you are taking medicines used to treat spasticity, such as anti-fungal medicines or corticosteroids
    • Are a doctor-prescribed medication for managing spasticity

Composition

Each tablet contains 20 mg of Sildenafil, an active ingredient known for its effectiveness in improving muscle movements.

How It Works?

BACLOFEN 20MG work by blocking the action of amylversible (known as entry point) in the brain, which prevents nerve signals that allow chemicals in the brain to relax. This helps spinal cord signals transmit from the brain to muscle, reducing muscle twitching and pain.

Dosage and Administration

The standard adult dose of BACLOFEN 20MG is 20 mg taken by mouth, once or twice daily, with or without food. The dosage may be increased or decreased based on efficacy and your body’s tolerance to the medication. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dosage for you based on your health needs. Be sure to consult your doctor before you take BACLOFEN 20MG, especially if you have any underlying health concerns or are taking other medications. Side Effects

BACLOFEN 20MG can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of baclofen sodium 20mg (BCS-20) in the treatment of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy. Baclofen sodium 20mg (BCS) was administered to the study patients in the outpatient clinic of the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Birmingham, UK, after a mean of 3 months of treatment.

At the end of treatment, we found that patients who received BCS-20 and those who received BCS-20 had significantly greater improvement in spasticity than those who received BCS alone (p < 0.001). The difference in the spasticity score in BCS- and BCS-20-treated patients (both P < 0.001) were statistically significant. The improvement in the spasticity score was not statistically different in patients who received BCS or BCS-20.

In this study, patients with cerebral palsy were divided into two groups, with BCS- and BCS-20 groups and with BCS and BCS-group in which the patients in the BCS-group had received both BCS and BCS.

Study design and subjects

This was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study, in which patients were randomly assigned to receive either BCS-20 or BCS-20 in the outpatient clinic of the University of Birmingham, UK, for the first time, during the study period. Patients were followed up for at least 4 weeks, and the spasticity scores were evaluated every year. The study group included those who were already receiving BCS-20, who were already receiving BCS-20, and who were not treated with BCS-20.

The patients who were in the BCS-group were evaluated with a functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. Patients were divided into two groups, in which BCS-group and BCS-group received both BCS and BCS-20, and in which the patients in the BCS-group had received BCS-20 only.

Study population

We evaluated all patients enrolled, who were between 18 to 64 years old, in the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Birmingham, UK, and in the Department of Spinal Cord & Related Trauma, University of Birmingham, UK, who had a total of 992 patients (average of 3.4). Patients were divided into two groups, BCS-group and BCS-group, in which patients in the BCS-group were receiving both BCS and BCS-20, and in which the patients in the BCS-group had received BCS only.

The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of Birmingham, and all participants gave their written informed consent to participate in the study.

Prevalence

The prevalence of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy was 4.8% (5 of 992 patients) in the BCS-group and 3.1% (9 of 495 patients) in the BCS-group after 1 year. The prevalence of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy has been reported to be 4.1% (4 of 992 patients) in the BCS-group and 3.4% (5 of 495 patients) in the BCS-group after 1 year. In our study, spasticity was significantly more common in patients with cerebral palsy compared to patients without cerebral palsy (P < 0.001).

In our study, the prevalence of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy was also significantly higher in patients with cerebral palsy compared to patients without cerebral palsy (P < 0.001).

Patient characteristics

Patients were divided into two groups, with BCS-group and BCS-group, in which patients in the BCS-group were receiving both BCS and BCS-20, and in which the patients in the BCS-group had received BCS only. The mean age of the patients in the BCS-group was 67.9 years (range, 60 to 85 years). Patients in the BCS-group were more likely to be female (55.1%) than patients in the BCS-group (35.8%) (p = 0.037). The mean age of the patients in the BCS-group was 69.9 years (range, 60 to 85 years) and the mean age of the patients in the BCS-group was 63.6 years (range, 46 to 85 years).

Baclofen: Muscle Relaxants

How Baclofen works

Baclofen is a muscle relaxant. It acts by increasing the effects of certain chemical messengers (such as GABA) in the spinal cord that induces muscle relaxation. As a result, it prevents muscle twitching, relieves pain caused due to muscle spasms and improves muscle movement.

Common side effects of Baclofen

  • nausea, vomiting
  • tiredness, sleepiness
  • weak limbs, muscle pain
  • constipation, diarrhoea, dry mouth
  • lack of sleep, nightmares
  • confusion, hallucination
  • breathing difficulties

  • if you experience feeling extremely depressed with thoughts of harming or killing themselves (suicidal thoughts)
  • if you experience signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
  • if you experience uncontrollable muscle spasms affecting the eyes, head, neck or body
  • if you experience behavioural changes (such as aggression, excitement, confusion, restlessness, agitation, irritability, rages, hallucinations, nightmares)
  • if you experience fainting or seizures (fits)

Health Tips for Baclofen

  • Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the sedative effects of Baclofen, leading to increased drowsiness and impairment
  • Drink an adequate amount of water to help prevent constipation
  • Follow a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet, engage in regular physical activity and get sufficient sleep to support the recovery and minimize the impact of muscle spasms
Also, if you experience any side effects from consumption of alcohol, you should consult a doctor before use. Also, if you experience allergic reactions upon contact, in case you experience symptoms such as rash, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing, you should avoid contact with lips, tongue and other objects during treatment.

Background:Baclofen is an antispasmodic and antipsychotic medication that is commonly used to treat disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. It is used for the treatment of spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders. To determine the effectiveness of baclofen in the treatment of spasticity, we assessed the effect of baclofen on spasticity, motor control, and cognitive function in patients with spasticity. This was a single center, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 10 mg/kg baclofen, 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo, or 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo in a fixed-dose combination (10 mg/kg). The primary endpoint was the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol. Secondary endpoints were motor control and cognitive function. Both the primary and secondary endpoints were statistically significant. In addition, the primary endpoints included changes from baseline to week 12. The secondary endpoints included: the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol, and the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol. Baclofen 10 mg/kg baclofen, 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo, or 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo in a fixed-dose combination (10 mg/kg) improved the patients' scores on the Baclofen Treatment Protocol, compared to the placebo group (p < 0.001). In addition, both the primary and secondary endpoints were statistically significant. The primary endpoint of this study was the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol.
