The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of baclofen sodium 20mg (BCS-20) in the treatment of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy. Baclofen sodium 20mg (BCS) was administered to the study patients in the outpatient clinic of the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Birmingham, UK, after a mean of 3 months of treatment.
At the end of treatment, we found that patients who received BCS-20 and those who received BCS-20 had significantly greater improvement in spasticity than those who received BCS alone (p < 0.001). The difference in the spasticity score in BCS- and BCS-20-treated patients (both P < 0.001) were statistically significant. The improvement in the spasticity score was not statistically different in patients who received BCS or BCS-20.
In this study, patients with cerebral palsy were divided into two groups, with BCS- and BCS-20 groups and with BCS and BCS-group in which the patients in the BCS-group had received both BCS and BCS.
This was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study, in which patients were randomly assigned to receive either BCS-20 or BCS-20 in the outpatient clinic of the University of Birmingham, UK, for the first time, during the study period. The prevalence of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy was 4.8% (5 of 992 patients) in the BCS-group and 3.1% (9 of 495 patients) in the BCS-group after 1 year. The prevalence of spasticity associated with cerebral palsy has been reported to be 4.1% (4 of 992 patients) in the BCS-group and 3.4% (5 of 495 patients) in the BCS-group after 1 year. In our study, spasticity was significantly more common in patients with cerebral palsy compared to patients without cerebral palsy (P < 0.001).

Background:Baclofen is an antispasmodic and antipsychotic medication that is commonly used to treat disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. It is used for the treatment of spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders. To determine the effectiveness of baclofen in the treatment of spasticity, we assessed the effect of baclofen on spasticity, motor control, and cognitive function in patients with spasticity. This was a single center, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 10 mg/kg baclofen, 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo, or 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo in a fixed-dose combination (10 mg/kg). The primary endpoint was the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol. Secondary endpoints were motor control and cognitive function. Both the primary and secondary endpoints were statistically significant. In addition, the primary endpoints included changes from baseline to week 12. The secondary endpoints included: the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol, and the change from baseline to week 12 of the Baclofen Treatment Protocol. Baclofen 10 mg/kg baclofen, 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo, or 10 mg/kg baclofen plus placebo in a fixed-dose combination (10 mg/kg) improved the patients' scores on the Baclofen Treatment Protocol, compared to the placebo group (p < 0.001).
